Title: Development of a search strategy for neutralino and chargino pair production through the vector boson scattering (VBS) process
Abstract: We present the early stages of the search for neutralino and chargino production with a higgsino-like LSP at the ATLAS detector at CERN. Our search interest lies in pp collision events in high dijet mass, missing transverse momentum, and dilepton final states. This specific signal region is left unexplored by current ATLAS SUSY searches, and in 2018 the VBF signal region will become more accessible following the efforts of the US-VBF team in implementing improved algorithms at the level-1 trigger. We first present challenges posed by, and consequent advancements in, triggering on these types of events with greater efficiency. Specifically, we discuss the impact the new level-1 topological trigger system has on searches with distinctive topology, such as VBF events. We also discuss experimental methods and constraints and our preliminary plan and outlook given these constraints. We welcome input from those with expertise in the theoretical and phenomenological nature of supersymmetry, as well as those with any interest in VBF/S processes.
