The New Nuclear Arms Race, Its Dangers, and How to Turn it Around
Abstract: The United States and Russia are engaged in the early phases of a new nuclear arms race. With the recent shredding of arms-control agreements, this race may proceed unfettered and could lead to unprecedented dangers to humanity. On the other hand a new bilateral dialog on strategic stability has begun. As scientists we are obliged to understand the dynamics of the arms race and its dangers, and to develop and support means to avert the rush to oblivion.
After the talk, there will be an opportunity for discussion for attendees interested in getting involved in nuclear policy advocacy or the Physicists Coalition for Nuclear Threat Reduction.
