Quantum Information Science for Professionals
September 12, 2022 - 8:30am to 5:00pm
This one-day tutorial will provide a foundation for professionals with an interest in Quantum Information Science. Department speakers include Dr. Michael Hatridge and Dr. Thomas Purdy.
Attendees will learn:
- Why quantum information science is a priority for the US, China & the European Union
- Nine Key Concepts of Quantum Information Science: what it is, what a quantum state is, how a qubit represents information and is encoded, what entanglement is, why quantum coherence is essential but still challenging, and the three primary applications: quantum computing, communication, and sensing
- What advantages quantum sensing may provide and what the key challenges are
- What advantages quantum communication may provide, and what the key challenges are
- What advantages quantum computing may provide, and what the key challenges are
- What are some of the leading quantum computing algorithms, and where are they useful
