Professor Tae Min Hong and his students in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Pittsburgh participated in the two-day ENGINEER THE FUTURE event at the Carnegie Science Center on February 24-25, 2022.
Large groups of students from grades 3 to 12 came by, both physically and virtually, to look at cosmic rays passing through the cloud chamber at our table. The alpha and beta particles passing through and ionizing the saturated atmosphere in the cloud chamber was a classic small scale demonstration of the type of observations made with the ATLAS Experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland.
