Exploring the Quantum Universe: Pathways to Innovation and Discovery in Particle Physics
The 2023 Particle Physics Project Prioritization Panel (P5) was charged with developing a 10-year strategic plan for US particle physics, in the context of a 20-year global strategy. This plan is based on extensive community input through the 2021 Snowmass Community Planning Exercise. The US particle physics program is defined to encompass research in both cosmology and high energy physics, with scientific questions covering an enormous range of energy and length scales. Experiments considered range from colliders of different energies, to large-volume, low-noise targets for neutrinos and dark matter, to cosmological survey telescopes, and more. In this colloquium I will describe the scientific vision and associated recommendations of the 2023 P5 report, “Exploring the Quantum Universe: Pathways to Innovation and Discovery in Particle Physics”, which was accepted in December 2023.
