Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How do I hire an undergraduate student to work in my lab?
Complete the Student Worker Requisition template. If you need assistance, see the Student Worker Job Requisition Template Guideline. Once completed, email to Cindy at niznik@pitt.edu and she will begin posting the request.
Please note: The student is not to begin working until onboarding with Human Resources has been completed. The student’s supervisor will receive an email once onboarding has completed and the student may begin working.
How do I hire a postdoc?
The initial step involves notifying the Chair of your intention to hire a postdoctoral researcher. The Chair will then coordinate with you to ensure suitable office space is arranged.
Please complete the Postdoctoral Requisition template, noting that the current minimum salary is $61,008 (2025). Once the form is completed, send it via email to Cindy at niznik@pitt.edu, who will initiate the posting process.
Kindly be aware that no postdoctoral appointment should commence until the onboarding process has been finalized. The postdoctoral researcher’s supervisor will receive an email upon completion of onboarding, at which point the individual may begin work.
After the requisition has been posted, all applications must be managed and dispositioned within the Talent Center system. You will receive notification from the Talent Center when the requisition is live and accepting applications.
Once a candidate has been selected, please email Cindy at niznik@pitt.edu with the chosen candidate’s name and proposed starting salary. The DSAS Payroll and Personnel Coordinator will then prepare an offer letter for signature, keeping you and me informed throughout the process.
