The linear and angular momentum of light can trap and spin atoms and nanoparticles. In a University of Pittsburgh-Tsing Hua University -SUSTEC collaborative research that is highlighted as a Featured Article in Applied Physics Reviews, we structure two nanoplasmonic vortices to generate emergent fields that can act as a conveyor belt for nanomaterial transport. The ability to structure light expands the tools for quantum sensing and manipulation on nanometer spatial and femtosecond temporal scales.
