What is SPS?
We are student-led group started by Pitt physics majors to encourage and assist students interested in physics to develop the knowledge, competence, enthusiasm, and social responsibility that are essential to the advancement of science. The group's goals include stimulating interest in advanced studies and research in physics, helping the department to connect physics students with faculty members and research opportunities, and promoting public interest in and awareness of physics and natural sciences in general. Membership is open to any interested undergraduate student. The members of the group meet every Wednesday at 7:00 pm in 321 Allen Hall; pizza is provided. This National Organization is a branch of the American Institute of Physics and acts as a median between homework help and professional development.
SPS Mentorship Interest Form
This year, we are continuing a program to connect upperclassmen physics majors with freshmen and sophomores to provide informal mentorship and advice on classes, building relationships with professors, research, studying, applying to REUs, internships, graduate school, etc.
Participating upperclassmen will be paired with one or more underclassman based on their interests and preferences.
