Analytical Solutions of Relativity Using Dynamic Renormalization Group
Gravitational wave astronomy has recently enabled us to probe the universe in ways that were impossible just a few years ago. Although detectors can now measure signals from millions of lightyears away, figuring out what event created the signal poses a significant theoretical challenge. The full equations of General Relativity which govern gravitational waves are simply too difficult to solve and turn into useful information to compare with experiment. Several methods have been developed to work around this, but in this talk we will discuss the Post-Newtonian expansion and Dynamic Renormalization Group. No prior knowledge of General Relativity or renormalization will be assumed.

About the Scholarship
The Emil Sanielevici Undergraduate Research Scholarship offers a $4,000 tuition award to students who propose and carry out a research project with a faculty member in the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Research results will be presented in an annual seminar as a part of PHYS 1310: Undergraduate Seminar.
