Beginning the week of September 23, Facilities Management will begin collecting compost in Allen, Old Engineering Hall, Thaw, and the SRCC!
Where can I compost?
Green compost collection bins with light green liners will be placed in bathrooms to collect paper towel waste, and in kitchenettes and lounges to collect food waste, paper waste, and certified compostable servingware (which comes with Pitt Catering Co drop off orders).
How do I compost correctly?
The Office of Sustainability has created an instructional video and slides that detail what can be placed in the compost bin. These can be found at any time on the Compostables page of the Pitt Sustainability website.
How is compost collected?
Facilities staff in the building will collect compost daily along with their regular rounds of trash and recycling removal.
Who can I contact with questions?
Contact Facilities Management at zerowaste@pitt.edu with any questions about collection, and the Office of Sustainability at sustainability@pitt.edu with any questions about compostable materials.
By composting correctly, you are helping Pitt achieve its goal of reducing landfill waste and food waste.
